If you’ve been around North Coast Gardening for long, you’ll know what a diehard Amy Stewart fan I am.
I’ve been reading her latest, Wicked Plants, all week, and I am enjoying it so much! It’s written with the perfect blend of humor and information, and the book itself is gorgeously done, with a cool brownish detail to the pages that makes it look like an old-skool medical journal or plant collector’s journal, detailed copper etchings done just for the book by a talented young artist, and generally a lot of attention paid to the presentation.
If you’re looking for a great Mother’s Day gift, why not pick up a copy of Amy’s book, with a card saying you’ll take Mom to lunch and then to go see Amy speak in person next week? After all, next Sunday, you’ll actually be able to get lunch reservations, and what could Mom like more than to spend some time with you contemplating poisons? Uh… that didn’t come out right.
In any case, I’ve seen Amy speak about her latest book and she really knows how to put on a show, with her lively voice, great stories, and plant clippings adding color to the event.
She’ll be at Northtown Books in Arcata on Sunday May 17th at 3pm. Don’t miss her!
